I want to do the Great Lakes award tour but have not learned jets. Can I start at KMSP or do I have to fly from my last stop KMIA? Hi and welcome to Froggie Air and Froggie's Pond! You are not required to depart from last landing but it makes for more realistic. Learning Jet's can take time - and lot's of headache meds! (Helo's too). When ready to do a tour, just start at the beginning and work all flights in order. Here at Froggie's you fly your way as long as realistic. You can say you took a commercial flight as a passenger from KMIA to KMSP! Happens real life all the time. Remember, the GLT tour has many water runways that you can get amphib / float award time for in addition to the tour award but you MUST specify in your PIREP that it was a float and or helo flight. Award Flt.# is also required for award.I hope your stay here is long and enjoyable. Any questions, feel free to post. Reminder to all - Awards are only issued to registered forum members!

Let's say I fly Jennifer to KMSP jet and return to Miami for my hop list. Problem solved!

What I have done, is use the opportunity to fly a simple jet from your current location to where it is you want to go. It will give you the opportunity to have hands on experience flying free flight without the learning experience curve (complete with the inevitable crash or two) "appearing" to count against your hop flight. So by the time you have semi-mastered your aircraft getting to your destination, you should be ready to tackle your hop flights with enough experience under your belt to make your flights relatively problem free. For example; I tend towards vintage prop aircraft. If I bring a "purchased" vintage prop aircraft "home" from its place of purchase, I now need a way back to my original aircraft which is parked at the first aircrafts place of purchase (how's that for a mouthful?). I will "hire" my ride back to where my aircraft is, usually by flying the learjet 45, as I find it a fairly simple bird to fly. This flight is not submitted as a pirep as it is a "hired" flight. All the flight serves to do is give me experience in something other than my antiques, and get me back to wherever it is that I want to be. Just my two cents worth. And my personal modus operandi. Above all do what works for you, and have fun! -Jon FRG013
