We all want planes but some are a pain it get right. I will teach you how to have a perfect install EVERYTIME!
First thing is to BACKUP EVERYTHING! Then set up a Download folder as you probably have. Next within the download folder, create a new folder, I call mine "TRANSFER "Download and virus scan the file. If all is good EXTRACT ALL to the temp file you just made. NEVER EVER UNZIP OR ALLOW ANY .EXE TO EXTRACT DIRECTLY INTO FLIGHTSIM! NEVER! If an .EXE will not let you load to a temp file, then it is fake or virus!
The following example is the P-51 Mustang from www.flightsim.com file name is alpha_p-51dup9.zip After you extract to temp folder you should see similar to this:
Always check the ReadMe files. Most are junk but play safe. You see two folders. The main aircraft folder is what you want to look at.
Every Plane MUST have the folders as shown above. MODEL - PANEL - SOUND - TEXTURE
Dbl.click the AIRCRAT.CFG file:
This tells you how the plane can be found on the select aircraft menu.
If all looks good - COPY and paste just the aircraft folder in to you main FS2004 Aircraft Folder. REMEMBER: You want the A/c folder ONLY!
Now Any other folders If a Gauges folder as this plane has; WARNING: DO NOT MOVE IT OR ANY EFFECT FOLDER TO YOU SIM!
Instead COPY and paste the files into your Main Gauge or Effect folders NEVER replace your gauge folder - back it up or you are fucked!
I say COPY Copy/Paste as sometimes when moving Acrt. files the get mixed into others.
Test the aircraft. If good then delete the temp files and have fun. If problems - message me the aircraft and I'll try to fix
